Four Minute Symphonies

There's a quiet avenue far outside this town Where the children all come out and play And the moms and dads all smile They'll all be there for a while They observe the tiny games safe in the shade There are memories buried there deep beneath the ground Tied up in the long roots of the trees It's been five long years since we Said goodbye And wondered if we'd ever meet again We had comedies and tragedies And these four minute symphonies Though they were written long before And we don't live here anymore The melodies and memories remain Sing a song that makes me weep the tears of yesterdays Sing a song that stands the test of time And I'll see you there again With a smile on your face And I'll remember how it felt to let go Of those comedies and tragedies And these four minute symphonies Even though we've all moved on I still love to sing along And reflect on how things came to be this way There's a little girl outside with sadness in her eyes Staring down the road that leaves this town Someday soon she'll leave this place And run far, far away Never forgetting the events that paved her way All the comedies and tragedies And these four minute symphonies Take them down off of the shelf Let us relive what went before We'll dance the way we did when we were young When we were young...

I think I'm in trouble What are we doing here? It's getting cold outside And I'm out here all alone And I should know better than To get caught up in these charades But it seems my education fell short Of common sense I like to make plans And know where I'm going But this makes the kind of sense that doesn't And I don't have a clue Of what to do now How to get from A to B It shouldn't be rocket science What we make of chemistry I see you falling for me Could I be falling for you? Though fear is blinding We keep winding up Outside each other's doors It's always something with you Or another with me Fumbling toward a destination That's unknown and out of reach So where do we stand Somewhere that's in between Fighting hard against the labels We craved long before I fight to hang on To what's left of my sanity And I fight to keep you from Sinking down But now you're falling for me Could I be falling for you? Though fear is blinding We keep winding up Outside each other's doors It's always something with you Or another with me Fumbling toward a destination That's unknown and out of reach I think I'm in trouble What are we doing here? It's getting cold outside And I'm out here all alone... And now you're falling for me Could I be falling for you? Though fear is blinding We keep winding up Outside each other's doors It's always something with you Or another with me Fumbling toward a destination That's unknown and out of reach

Friends who turned lovers Went back to being friends But nothing's ever over Because nothing ever ends I thought that it'd be easier With calmness to be found But I fight the urge to kiss him When there's no one else around We spin circles in silence And fall flat on the floor But the stench of desperation Is much harder to ignore So we both will mind our manners And get through another day But I struggle still to find A better way Of getting over you Getting over your auburn eyes I want so much to linger But you're not one for long good-byes Letting go of a dream The sweet and gentle reverie Finding the strength to love you As you slowly walk away If my heart's just an organ Then tell me why does it ache When I think on all that's come to pass And all of our mistakes If these tears don't serve a purpose Why do they flow from me like rain When I know that they can't Wash away the pain Of getting over you Getting over your auburn eyes I want so much to linger But you're not one for long good-byes Letting go of a dream The sweet and gentle reverie Finding the strength to love you As you slowly walk away And even though you're incomparable You're still emotionally unavailable And I'm not unassailable And so it's time to walk away It's just so hard for me... Getting over you Getting over your auburn eyes I want so much to linger But you're not one for long good-byes Letting go of a dream The sweet and gentle reverie Finding the strength to love you And then slowly walk away

We Were Here 04:04
Another week starts Another broken heart Guess that's how the story goes The laughter and the cheer The omnipresent tears We all get knocked down But we keep on dancing Long ago we dreamed of settling down And thought that happiness would follow in stride Now I wonder how we could have been so long So let's grab a sixer on a Saturday night And we'll speculate about the meaning of life And celebrate the fact that we're still alive Let it be known that we were here The good times are here and then gone But we still have to keep moving on So we'll hold our heads up high While singing along That I was here with you The unexpected smiles The errors and the trials It's par for the course it seems The sacred and profane The blindingly mundane When things fall apart We'll put them back together The plot lines always thicken and cross But the heroes will stay the course They have each other at the end of the day So let's grab a sixer on a Saturday night And we'll speculate about the meaning of life And celebrate the fact that we're still alive Let it be known that we were here The good times are here and then gone But we still have to keep moving on So we'll hold our heads up high While singing along That I was here with you The things we take in stride The bumps along the ride We've all heard this tale before The ones who hold my hand The ones who understand I'm never alone With you here beside me [1, 2, 3, 4!] So let's grab a sixer on a Saturday night And we'll speculate about the meaning of life And celebrate the fact that we're still alive Let it be known that we were here The good times are here and then gone But we still have to keep moving on So we'll hold our heads up high While singing along That I was here with you

Lost in self reflection Consumed by introspection Over these indiscretions That we did not commit The boulevard is blurry And we are in such a hurry To not be judged by this jury Of persons far from peers Our collective unconscious is bleeding in time To the sound of our heartstrings' new lullaby Tick tock, we can't stop moving Face to face with the firing squad No rest now for the weary While the wicked ones applaud Take heed to shield your faces For judgment day is near We can handle any hardship If we can make it through this year The winter hibernation Brought spring and condemnation Then summer's hesitation Now we all look too the fall There's a light in the darkness that struggling to shine There's some remnant of hope in this hurt soul of mine Tick tock, we can't stop moving Face to face with the firing squad No rest now for the weary While the wicked ones applaud Take heed to shield your faces For judgment day is near We can handle any hardship If we can make it through this year Our collective unconscious is bleeding in time To the sound of our heartstrings' new lullaby Tick tock, we can't stop moving Face to face with the firing squad No rest now for the weary While the wicked ones applaud Take heed to shield your faces For judgment day is near We can handle any hardship If we can make it through this year

Wish I May 03:45
It was a breath of fresh air That washed over my face But then it drifted away And brought me back to this place Thought I'd convinced myself My will to love had gone But then he spoke my name And it proved me wrong And now I walk alone under a cloudy autumn sky I'd wish upon a star if I could find one out tonight His smile made me smile His laughter made me weak I couldn't find the words But didn't need to speak I lost the urge to fight The need to run and hide When he touched my skin It made me feel alive But now those summer nights have gone and passed us by The walk home is colder now and the chill might make me cry Star light, star bright Is there a star out tonight? And while I wish I may, I wish you might Find your way back to me tonight I didn't know what to say Didn't think anyone could make me feel this way Maybe it's over now Maybe it's time to go Still I wonder if He will ever know What it meant to me How he lit up my days How my heart skipped two beats When he looked my way And now I still long for the sunlight in his eyes But it's long past nightfall, so it's time to say good-bye Star light, star bright Is there a star out tonight? And while I wish I may, I wish you might Find your way back to me... Star light, star bright Is there a star out tonight? And while I wish I may, I wish you might Find your way back to me tonight
